This guy is the definition of CrossFit.
We are very sad to see our good friend and all around bad ass Jake Lay leave. Jake is off for Marine Corps base in Quantico, Virginia where he will be trained as an officer and a helicopter pilot. Although he was only here for such a short time he managed to break or set nearly every record in the gym. (Emphasize nearly.
) Not just a phenomenal athlete Jake is the kind of soft spoken guy that lets his actions do the talking. His great energy and presence in the gym will be sorely missed. From everyone here at Orange Coast CrossFit we wish you the best of luck and know you will kick some serious ass. Stay safe and keep in touch brother. Hooooyaaaa!!
We will be having one group WOD in the evening. It will start at 6pm. Please pm me if you cant make this and we will acomodate. After there will be drinks, and cake to send Big Jake off in style.
WOD
In teams of two complete the following.
6 Rounds of:
200 m Run
20 Pullups (chest to bar)
30 Burpees
40 Kb swings
60 WallBalls
The harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph.
Go get em.

My only regret about meeting Jake is that I did not meet him a year ago. I will miss you sooooo much Jake!!!!!
Jake you’re a stud bro. Through and through. I’ll miss chasin’ after ya brudda’.
Stay in shape brother………..next time you come back to the box you’ll see “Sinclair” has erased all your records.
Jake: In spite of your abbreviated stay, you have added much to OCC and at a key time in the life cycle of our gym [Justin it's ours too]. Your understated tone, knowledge of technique and simply sick performance are a great tone setter and energy producer in the box- not to mention a powerful example of what is possible for we ‘grey beards” [sorry Sinclair]. It is reassuring to know that we we will have guys like you “guarding the gates”. Be safe and don’t get too fat riding around in your new rotar wing limo.
Jake, you will be missed!! I appeciated your motivation, expertise and support in the box. On a personal note, I wanted to thank you for helping me touch my toes for the first time. Quite a milestone for me!! Continue to utilize the skills you have been given and you will go far!!
Rock on Jake! You WILL be missed! The Marines are getting a good one. Cheers. See you tonight.
F@ck!!! Has anybody looked at the WOD? Are you kidding me? I pick Jake as my partner…..since we’re the 2 best athletes at OCC I think its only fair.
btw Brook, why dont I get props for making you grab your ankles?
Ok so I hear mumblings about Matty not showing up for the WOD tonight but in his defense I have to say he isnt a pussy and although he does deserve the DNF for last nights WOD y’all have to understand he’s gotta be fresh for his pseudo sport of Volleyball. Lay off people, leave Matty alone, I hate seeing him cry.
Can somebody get Sinclair a glass of Shut the Fu$k up?
Jake, You are the man. Keep kicking ass and taking names.
Dammit!! See, I told you. You guys made him cry. Its ok Matty, daddy will do the WOD for you:-)
OK Beeaaatch, it’s F’n Game on. If I can get outta’ here early enough you’re done. Then we will pick 3 benchmark WOD’s, I pick one, you pick one, and JMF picks one or the Box picks it. Then you shut up. I’m sure of it.
Yaaaawwwwnnnnn!!! Did you hear something?
Alright children……. how about a Fran witnessed by the whole group-after todays WOD. Would sure make for great entertainment and only take a few minutes.
Thank you Chip for trying to be the voice of reason, but remember that this is Sinclair that we’re dealing with. I’m all for it. But wow Fran. Sinclair might wanna use the blue strap, and scale the weight to 35# for his thrusters.
And in addition to all the S talkin’ I’ve been getting coming my way, this day is Jakes. Not mine or Sinclair’s. Selfish SOB.
JAKE– We are going to miss you!
We love you Jake! Keep in touch please! You’ll be missed! Good luck!!!
Would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all at Orange Coast Crossfit. The send-off was great and it seems like these last 2 months have flown by.
It has been a privilege to sweat, struggle, and really get after it with all of you. To be associated with a group of people who are as dedicated to their craft is truly a pleasure. It is folks like yourselves that make the decision to serve very very easy.
Best of luck, and I’ll be in touch.
