Thought we would make it a Memorial Week and do Hero WoDs the whole week.
| Memorial Day commemorates US Service Members who died while in military service. First enacted by formerly enslaved African-Americans to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War – it was extended after World War I to honor Americans who have died in all wars.
CrossFit has always respected and honored the military. One way CF HQ has honored fallen soldiers is through the Hero WoDs. They are well known through out the CrossFit community and they are taken serious by many CrossFitters. I still to this day remember sitting with Matt Banwart after we had just completed one of the Hero WoDs. I had just finished expressing how hard it was to get through. He replied that whenever he starts struggling or having feelings of doubt during a Hero WoD, he thinks of the soldier who gave his life to protect our country and how their struggle was much more difficult. If they could die to protect our country, the least he could do was complete that WoD with everything he’s got to show them his appreciation. Ever since then, before I begin a Hero, I think about what Matt said and I appreciate the workout much more. |
