Train to not suck at life

Schinn getting after it.

We have designed our program to elicit as broad an adaptational response as possible. CrossFit is not a specialized fitness program but a deliberate attempt to optimize physical competence in each of ten recognized fitness domains. -Coach Glassman

These fitness domains are:

Endurance, Stamina, Strength, Flexibility, Power, Speed, Coordination, Agility, Balance, and Accuracy

It’s no surprise that some CrossFit gym’s use the “Train to not suck at life” tag line, as these fitness domains are all critical aspects to our personal success, no matter what our aim.

Remember we have the Trader Joes excursion after the 6:30 WOD tonight. Think you know what to eat already? Well if you have the results you already want then dont bother coming. If however you admit you might need some help or some new ideas. Join us! Your success in here is vital to our success as a gym and the training is only half the equation. Rest and diet are equally important.

6:30 crew post Fran.

Core strength is the level by which you keep the mid-line stabilized. There are few movements that rival  the OHS for core development. It also allows us to test shoulder flexibility,  your ability to handle load overhead and communicate the differences between an “active€ and “passive€ shoulder and how they both affect performance.

“The overhead squat is the ultimate core exercise, the heart of the snatch, and peerless in developing effective athletic movement.
This functional gem trains for efficient transfer of energy from large to small body parts €“ the
essence of sport movement. For this reason it is an indispensable tool for developing speed and
power.
The overhead squat is to midline control, stability, and balance what the clean and snatch are to power€“ unsurpassed.€
-Greg Glassman (CrossFit Journal #36 [Aug.2005])

Remember we have the Olympic lifting seminar this Saturday. There are still a few spots open. In order to keep your spot the deadline to pay is Thursday to keep your spot. Thanks.

We are going to be doing an excursion to Trader Joes on Wednesday night after the 6:30pm class. It will be a fun trip where we will show you what to buy and what to stay away from. Its a hands on lesson on nutrition that everyone should attend. Please post to comments if your interested.

056What a week! Thank you to everyone who came in and laid their souls bare in our facility this week. There was plenty of sweat dripped, some blood spilled and i could have sworn I saw a few tears. We clean the box each night but the incredible spirit that is left can not be wiped clean. It is reflected on our white boards, the weight lifted, pullups done, squats perfomed, meters ran and rowed etc.

Speaking of white boards we are going to be putting up a few more on the walls and I would like to get your opinion on what you would like to see for new achivements. Max deadlift, squat, press etc. max double unders in a row, muscle up club, fastest 500m, 2k row, etc. I need ideas!

There is a new widget on the left navigation bar. It is called the Leader Board and it will have a photo of each days WOD results. Be sure to check it out and see how you stacked up to everyone else.

Also do not forget their is only one workout on Saturday and its on the beach. We are meeting at the foot of Newport Pier at 9am. Be their or be square. Breakfast after at Altas.

I want to say a big  Happy 36th Birthday from all of us at Orange Coast CrossFit to Pinky! Its actually on Saturday but we will be celebrating it with a WOD today. If you dont know Pinky she might possibly be the sweetest member in the gym as well as a fit mofo. Look forward to this workout girl its yours.
